BScN-Collaborative Program
Program Description
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)-Collaborative Program is primarily for high school graduates or those who have some postsecondary education, and is designed as a 4 year full-time program. With approval from the Faculty of Nursing student advisor, students can extend the program for up to a maximum of 6 years from the time of admission.
The program is called "Collaborative" because in addition to being offered at the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton, all four years can be taken at Red Deer College, Keyano College (Fort McMurray), or Grande Prairie Regional College. If students wish to enroll in a location other than the University of Alberta, they should apply directly to that specific institution. After the third year of the program, students from those three locations apply to the University of Alberta and are considered UofA students for their fourth year, but still remain at the campus of the original institution.
Note: Individuals who have previously completed a recognized university degree in any field are not eligible for the BScN-Collaborative Program and should refer to the BScN-After Degree Program.
Admissions
Note: In addition to the admission requirements, there are a number of Health and Safety Requirements required for clinical practice that must be met upon admission to the Faculty of Nursing.

Course Sequence
Below is the course sequence for those undertaking full-time studies. Please also refer to section 134 of the University Calendar. Course sequencing is subject to change and can be configured differently depending on clinical placement availability.
- The number in brackets beside the course name indicates the units of course weight ("credits") for that particular course.
- Course names that end in "Practice" are clinical placements/experiences done in off-campus healthcare facilities.
- Complete course descriptions are available on Bear Tracks. If you do not have a UofA Campus Computing ID, you can login to Bear Tracks as a Guest.
- Students planning to pursue a professional program such as Medicine should consult this section of our Frequently Asked Questions page, as an alternate course sequence must be arranged. Students who are considering this route should speak with our Student Advisor before registering for courses.
The following course sequence is in effect as of the 2011-2012 academic year. Students who entered the program in earlier years should refer to the University Calendar from their year of admission.
Total units of course weight ("credits") for the program = 135
